Water Marble Nail Art

I decided to tackle another water marble look this weekend.
I really like how it turned out and this time, I took some pictures throughout the process.

For instructions on how to easily do this look yourself, keep reading!

Everything you will need:
  • Bowl of room temperature water
  • 2 or more nail polishes of your choice
  • Toothpick or Pin
  • Scotch Tape
  • Nail Polish Remover
  • Cotton Buds
After getting all the items gathered, it's time to use the scotch tape.  Place it around your nail and down your finger to just above the knuckle.  This will make the cleanup easier, and keeps the polish from getting all over your finger.

After you have all the tape in place, use the lightest color for the base coat on the nails you plan to marble.  In this case, I used the white on all the nails that I would be marbling.  Now you are ready to get started!

Start by dropping a blob of polish in the center of the bowl. Once it spreads out, you are ready for the second color. Make sure each blob goes in the center of the last shade you dropped in the water. Think of it as a bulls eye.

I started with the dark purple, and used the white to separate the 2 dark shades.  I probably repeated the step 5-6 times until I was satisfied.  Just make sure to work fast, because the polish dries very quick on the surface of the water.

Next, it's time to add your design.  Use a toothpick to start in the center and then pull out to sides of the bowl.  Then, go back in between where you pulled out to the bowl, and pull to the center of the design.  Just play around with it until you are happy with the look. You can make chevron designs, straight lines, hearts, etc.

The design that ultimately is on your nails, depends on where you place it in the bowl.  Make sure you put your nail down in the water at an angle just a little above the knuckle.   Once the nail is in the water, leave it there and blow on the surface of the water for about 5 seconds to dry the polish.  Take the toothpick and swirl around the surface of the water to remove the remaining polish and pull your finger out once all the polish has been removed.

Wait for a couple minutes, and remove all the tape.

Use a cotton bud with polish remover to clean any polish left on your skin.  Seal it with your favorite top coat, and repeat on every nail, or use it for an accent nail or two. :)

Here is my finished look and you can also check out my first attempt at this technique here.

The water marble technique is a great way to get creative and also provides unlimited amount of designs. So, get all your polishes, get creative and most of all, have fun!!
